A fragment of the Gobi Desert located on the territory of the Mongolian People’s Republic in the intermountain trough of the Mongolian Altai. The picture depicts a plain section of the intermountain trough, mountain ridges, the Achit Nur Lake and the Kobdo river valley.
The Achit Nur Lake is dark blue, the river valley is red-brown, and the massifs stand out by alternating colors and shadows. The south-west part of the image shows permanent snow on the mountain summits. Clouds look more flocculent and round than the snow.
The Earth’s crust consists of the blocks, which are composed of different rocks separated by fractures. The fractures are of ring or rectangular shape. The image shows the straight boundary between the Altai mountains and the plain as well as the ring shaped fracture followed by the Kobdo River.
