Very high resolution imagery for all
In June 2007, the ScanEx Research & Development Center became an official distributor of very high resolution IKONOS satellite images – first highly detailed imagery data, commercially available for the users.
GeoEye – the satellite operator – was established in 2006 as a result of a merger between two companies: Space Imaging and OrbView. The corporation plans to launch the new generation GeoEye-1satellite by this yearend that will deliver data at 0.4 m resolution in panchromatic and 1.65 m in multispectral modes.
Despite the long service life (the satellite was launched back on September 24, 1999), IKONOS is still fully functional and continues to deliver very high resolution remote sensing data to the users. For the moment the total territory of over 275 million square km has been covered with images from this satellite. The imager instruments onboard transmit raw telemetry in panchromatic (0.8 m) and multispectral modes (4 channels, similar to Landsat 4/5 TM in spectral parameters: blue, green, red and near IR at 3.2 m resolution). More details about IKONOS images are presented on ScanEx’s site in «Data» section.
According to formal address of First Deputy Chief State Inspector of RF on Geodesic Supervision Mr. V. Shalamov at the XIV All-Russian Forum “The market of geo-information in Russia. Modern conditions and development prospects” on Junó 5, the restrictions on using foreign remote sensing data have been lifted. ScanEx Center keeps abreast and offers very-high resolution images to a wide range of users, pitting its mission of democratization of RS data into practice. Nowadays, IKONOS data are one of the highly detailed images accessible to Russian users unlimited.
The experience of first domestic geoportals (http://maps.yandex.ru, www.new.kosmosnimki.ru) shows that IKONOS images, stitched into a single color-balanced mosaic, is a wonderful ground for fine illustration of the dwelling infrastructure on regional, municipal and interdepartmental web-resources.
To purchase IKONOS archived images and to order new ones or create information Internet-portals using very-high resolution RS data, please contact ScanEx at: (495) 651-3587, (495) 651-3590 or e-mail to: sales@scanex.ru.
