Interregional workshop on aerospace education in Kaluga
On October 26-28, an interregional scientific workshop “Earth from space – innovation museum information and education technology” took place in the town of Kaluga. The workshop was arranged by the youth center of aerospace education after S. Korolev of the Moscow Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics (MMK), Department of Education of Kaluga and by the ScanEx R&D Center. Over 70 people attended the workshop, directors and leading professors of the educational institutions of Kaluga, Kaluga Region, Moscow and St.-Petersburg.
During the workshop, opened by the Hero of the USSR cosmonaut A.N. Balandin, new technologies in educational and project activities were demonstrated based on space imagery and GIS, master-classes on Earth remote sensing, Educational GIS, on museology, astronomy and culturology.
Space images reception techniques were demonstrated at the workshop using the small-size Alice-SC “roof” station. Researchers and specialists from the MMK Aerospace Center, ScanEx, Moscow planetarium, Institute of High-Energy Physics (Protvino) and Institute of New Technologies spoke to the audience.
A round table “Innovation trends of the museum aerospace education of the students in present social situation” was held within the frames of the workshop, presenting the experience of the Kaluga aerospace education system (4 additional aerospace education centers are operating in the town with 51 secondary schools)
New trends and technologies in aerospace education in Kaluga were highlighted at the end of the workshop, with a special place taken by the schools-winners of the “Education” National Project. A decision was made to develop a new joint education project “Unique land of Kaluga”, dedicated to the 2007 space anniversaries, based on space images using GIS-technology. A teaching aid for additional education institutions the will be worked out too. Department of Education of Kaluga, Moscow Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, ScanEx R&D Center, Institute of High-Energy Physics and Institute of New Technologies will take part in the creation of this book. It was decided also to arrange for a summer international aerospace school based on the “Belka” children’s recreation center in Kaluga in August 2007.
