In October 2006, the Alice-SC ground receiving station was put into operation in the National Centre for Remote Sensing (NCRS) in Nigeria.

ScanEx R&D Center has won a contract at the international tender to deliver its station to Nigeria. Small-size Alice-SC station provides for the data reception from meteorological satellites in HRPT format in L-band. NOAA satellites space images will be used for weather forecasts, real-time fires detection, in agriculture and in emergency situations monitoring (dust storms, hurricanes, etc.).

Nigerian NCRS Center, located in Jos, is one of the departments of the National Space Research and Development Agency – NASRDA – with its headquarters in the town of Abuja. Recently, a 25-year plan was worked out and adopted in Nigeria for space research and development, which is currently being implemented. In 2003, the first Nigerian NigeriaSat-1 remote sensing satellite, made by the British SSTL company, was launched onboard the Russian carrier vehicle. Satellite images of up to 32 m resolution are received by the NASRDA data processing center in Abuja. In 2007, a second NigeriaSat-2 satellite is scheduled to be put into orbit with the resolution of 2.5 meters only, as well as a NIGCOMSAT-1 communications satellite.

Nigerian NCRS Center is developing and Alice-SC was the first one to open the access to real-time data to the Nigerians.

Until recently, ScanEx’s stations were delivered to 13 countries in Europe and Asia only. Nigerian Alice-SC station became the first ScanEx’s supply to the African continent.
