Yandex opens web-site search engine tool based on Moscow space images
Yandex portal opened a new search engine - satellite map of Moscow and Moscow Region.
Now it becomes possible to have a closer look at Moscow and its suburbs down to separate buildings and vehicles.
Every Muscovites can now see the roof of his house just by typing in the address in the Yandex.Maps search engine. Many more interesting objects can be also found: for example, the Msocw circus by typing in «Âåðíàäñêîãî, 7» address, or the Peter the First monument and the shadow it throws by typing in «Áåðñåíåâñêàÿ, 2» address.
In addition to the familiar city map Yandex know offers two new view modes – “Satellite” and “Hybrid” (a combination of satellite images and graphical maps). All the usual Yandex.Maps tools are compatible with new view modes. Thus, for example, one can measure the distance in meters from a country house to the nearest river on the satellite image or mark his favorite place adding own text in the popping-up box.
Also the satellite map reflects the real-time traffic situation. Of course, the traffic jam is depicted as on the time of imaging, whereas the current Moscow traffic situation looks like this.
Yandex.Maps service was opened in 2004. A new service – the map of Moscow traffic – appeared a year ago on Yandex.Maps. According to TNS Gallup, over 1.3 million Muscovites had used the Yandex.Maps service by April 2007.
Satellite images for Yandex.Maps portal are supplied by ScanEx R&D Center. Most part of Moscow images was acquired in 2006.
