First EROS-B images received by ScanEX R&D Center
On August 6, ScanEx’s UniScan ground station successfully captured the data from the ImageSat International EROS-B commercial satellite. According to ImageSat’s specialists, who processed the images, the data quality meets all the accepted standards.
EROS-B satellite of 300 kg was launched into the polar sun-synchronous orbit by the Russian Start-1 vehicle from the Svobodny launch site (Amur Region) on April 25, 2006. ImageSat International now operates two high resolution satellites: EROS-A (1.9 meter resolution, 10:00 descending time) and EROS-B (0.7 meter resolution 14:00 descending time), which deliver morning and daytime images respectively. The new EROS-B satellite, as compared to its predecessor, has a better resolution (up to 0.7 meters) and a higher capacity. According to the distribution agreement, signed by ScanEx R&D Center and ImageSat International., ScanEx R&D Center obtained the license for EROS-A (from 2005) and EROS-B (from 2006) data reception and distribution in Russia.
ScanEx R&D Center is now operating two EROS compatible Ground Receiving Stations located in Moscow and Irkutsk. Starting from 2005 about 800 scenes have been acquired in Russia from EROS-A satellite, with 500 of them in the current year.
According to the ScanEx information, the multi-channel satellite data reception with submeter resolution at the total rate of 350 Mbps by the small-size UniScan ground station with the 2.4 m antenna in X-band is a unique world experience. Small aperture antenna enables to considerably decrease the station price, as well as data cost for the end-users.
EROS high resolution images will be applied for different tasks: mapping, emergency situation assessment, territorial development planning and environmental management.
