EROS A took images of all Baltic capitals!

Fine weather and incredible performance of this EROS series satellite enabled the Baltic states inhabitants to have a closer look at their capitals from space this spring. On May 28, images of Tallinn and Riga cities were delivered at spatial resolution of 2 m with Vilnius joining in on June 3. Those are not the only cities imaged by this extra-dexterous satellite during this season: New EROS A images were received for Samara, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Volgodonsk, Petrozavodsk, Kaliningrad, Tambov, Novosibirsk, Bryansk and Baku, Odessa and Lvov. VHR resolution (0.7 m) EROS B satellite keeps abreast of its “co-brother”: Following Moscow and Moscow Region, Saratov, Engels, Neftekamsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Inta and Ufa, Novokuznetsk, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Kezhma and Vanavara were covered with fresh images.

www.kosmosnimki.ru doubled its coverage

Less than three months passed since the mosaic of Central Federal District was posted at www.kosmosnimki.ru – the experimental project of ScanEx R&D Center - when a new big coverage was added – a mosaic of the entire Southern Federal District based on IRS satellites archive imagery at 5.8 m resolution. The assortment of the http://shop.kosmosnimki.ru shop has been consequently expanded – seaside vacationers may “purchase” a bit of their favorite beach, mountaineers – the conquered mountain and mountain villagers – a piece of their home valley.

New radar possibilities – do your own assessment of TerraSAR-X data!

ScanEx R&D Center and Infoterra GmbH offers all users from Russia and CIS countries to do their own independent assessment of TerraSAR-X data quality – first radar images at 1 meter resolution. The German radar satellite of the new generation was launched on June 15, 2007 and started to deliver data to commercial users as of January 15.

First complete coverage of Moscow city with 2008 VHR imagery

On April 25, 2008 ScanEx specialists acquired the complete coverage of Moscow with EROS B satellite imagery at 0.7 m resolution. The received images are highly valued due to the absence of foliage and snow, thus enabling to study the city infrastructure in most efficient way. Due to high onboard imaging equipment output the entire area of the capital of over 3 000 km² was covered within two passes only. The satellite also captured the images of the following spring-time Russian towns: Saratov, Engels, Neftekamsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Inta and western districts of Ufa.

ScanEx’s geoportal awarded Big Gold Medal at Siberian Fair

Following the multi-year tradition, ScanEx Research and Development Center took part in the IV International Forum “GEO-Siberia” that took place last week in Novosibirsk. The Siberian forum became the first trans-Urals project in its class connecting the International scientific congress and the exhibition in sphere of geodesy, cartography, geology, geophysics, land use planning, cadastre, real-estate, GIS- technology, forest management, Earth geo-monitoring, special instrumentation technology.

All Russia to be covered with stereo images

Since May 2005, the Indian Cartosat-1 (IRS-P5) satellite has been successfully operating on orbit, delivering stereo pairs of high (2.5 m) resolution in obvious demand by present-day mappers. Cartosat-1 data enable to draw new and to update old large-scale topographic maps up to 1:10 000 scales. The unique feature of the satellite is the possibility to get stereo pairs on a single pass using two cameras ((PAN-fore and PAN-aft) transmitting data in panchromatic mode within the swath of around 30 km.

Cataloguing space images – what can be easier?

ScanEx R&D Center offers all interested to find out more about the new MagicCatalog® software package that has been created to generate and to manipulate with catalogs of space images, setting up archives of remote sensing data. ScanEx stations – a new record: from North to South Pole!

The second stage of the 53^rd Russian Antarctic Expedition started in January. The Academic Fyodorov survey ship covered 1200 miles from Melbourne towards the Antarctic. 30 scientists boarded the ship in the seaport to carry on with season research work as per expedition program. This research work is deliniated mostly by the tasks of the International Polar Year 2007-2008. One of the tasks is the study of meteorological and global warming impacts on the Antarctic. In support of this study and to get correct meteorological information and ice situation monitoring, “Liana” and “Scanex” receiving stations are installed onboard the ship.
